Midnight Snack?

My kids all know that one of my rules is no food upstairs or in their bedrooms. They are usually pretty good about following it, but lately I have been finding crumbs and granola bar wrappers in the playroom upstairs. Of course no one will admit to being the one who was eating in there and I haven't been able to catch anyone trying to smuggle their illegal contraband upstairs.

Yesterday, Rylee came in to tell me that Andrew had food upstairs. As much as I can't stand when the kids tattle on one another, I went into his room to ask him about it. This is how it went...

Me: Andrew, do you have food up here?

Andrew: Yes.
(At least he's honest! )

Me: Are you allowed to have food up here?

Andrew: No.

Me: Then why do you have it up here?

Andrew: Because Jessie told me I should.

Me: Jessie told you to bring food up here?

Andrew: Yes. She said I should always keep food in here just in case I get hungry during the night and wake up and need a midnight snack.

Me: (laughing) Do you wake up often during the night needing a snack?

Andrew: No, but it's just in case.

I had to laugh at his seriousness. He is quite the eater (has been since birth!), and I think he was honestly scared that he might need an emergency snack at midnight. I reassured him that, if the time ever comes, he can always get a midnight snack from the pantry downstairs. He seemed a little better after that so I asked him to take the food back downstairs. Reluctantly, he opened the little coconut tiki head bank on his dresser and pulled out a granola bar.

BUSTED!!

Apparently he doesn't wake during the night, so he's been eating his "emergency midnight snacks" while playing during the day.

Little booger. :)

I'm just scared to think of how much he's going to eat once he hits his teen years. Pretty sure I'm going to have to take out a loan to cover our grocery costs! ;)
